WHERE DO WE SOURCE OUR TREES?

Our trees are sourced from one of the countries leaing independent tree nurseries in Bedfordshire. The trees are grown to the absolute highest standards and are available throughout the year. The nursery regularly supplies trees to multiple gardens at the Chelsea Flower Show.

HOW ARE THE TREES SIZED?

Most trees are sized by girth. This is measurement is taken 1m up on the stem of the tree and is in cm. It will start at 10-12cm girth and go up to 50-60cm girth. However, for multi-stem trees, they will be graded by height - for example 2-2.5m.

It is important to note that because trees are graded by girth the size and spread of the tree canopy is not taken into account and is related to how the tree would normally grow. In nurseries, trees are often grown close together so the spread of the canopy is limited even if when installed the tree would naturally spread more.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO PLANT TREES?

There is no right or wrong time to plant trees. We are traditionally told that the best time to plant is between November and April when the trees are in a state of dormancy. However, the reality is that lots of trees are container-grown these days and that means they can be planted all year round with the same levels of success.

ARE TREES CHEAPER IN THE WINTER?

Yes, for most trees. Between November and April when they are dormant trees, can be supplied field-grown and root-balled or root-wrapped. They are usually around 20% cheaper than the same tree bewteen May and October. Some trees, however, are only container grown and thus there is no difference.
